Nuremberg Christmas City

|
Every year, during advent, Nuremberg is transformed into a Christmas City. The the solemn prologue spoken by the Nuremberg Christmas Angel (Christkind) opens the Nuremberg Christmas Market on the Friday before the first Advent Sunday. Every year, over two million people visit this world-famous market which was first mentioned in writing in 1628.
The Christkind as the market's symbolic figure brings the Christmas spirit to all kinds of social institutions with over 150 appointments. This ambassador of the city of Nuremberg is a welcome guest at other Christmas markets, both in Germany and abroad. Her tasks also include appearances in TV shows which use the festively decorated city of Nuremberg as a very atmospheric backdrop.
But it isn't only the traditional Christmas Market which made the German Central Tourism Association name Nuremberg as "Number One Christmas City". Nuremberg's Children's Christmas Market with its historic, steam-powered carousels and lots of hands-on fun activities is a special feature for our small visitors.
Events, concerts and exhibitions of arts and crafts and nativity scenes add to the festive spirit, as do the Christmas lights throughout the Old Town.
