Nuremberg is an amiable city where people of all generations feel very much at home. The "Bündnis für Familie" (Pact for Families) is an initiative supported by a wide variety of social groups, aimed at making Nuremberg even more attractive for families.
In 2000, Nuremberg City Council took the unanimous decision of establishing this "Pact for Families". It is under the overall control of the Department for Youth, Family and Social Issues. The pact is intended to focus municipal political action more on the living conditions of families. It aims at the widest possible citizens' involvement. Round tables, projects, public events, and an annual "Open Forum for Families" have contributed to a much increased public awareness.
The five petals of the pact's colourful logo, the "Flori", are to symbolise the five fields of action: "Campaign for Education", "Supporting Families", "Families and the Working World", "The City as Living Space" and "Families, Education and Culture".
