Since 1994, the Nuremberg Ice Tigers have been playing in the German Ice Hockey League DEL. Their greatest sporting successes were second places in the German Championships in the seasons of 1998/99 and 2006/2007, each time beaten with a very narrow margin by the Mannheim "Eagles".
In 1995, the Ice Tigers emerged from the original club "EHC 80 Nürnberg", and since 2001 their home ground has been the Arena Nürnberg Versicherung, which can accommodate up to 8.2000 fans for their matches.
In summer 2009, economic insolvency was avoided when a new sponsor, "Thomas Sabo", stepped in. Coach Andreas Brookmann's team will now play in front of enthusiastic fans and has reached the play-off round. The goal keeper will again be the supporters' favourite, Patrick Ehelechner, who is back, after a crucial ligament rupture and a year's injury lay-off. In addition, Adam „Siggi“ Svoboda, one of the Czech national goal keepers, has been signed up again, after being on a contract with the Ice Tigers in the 2004/2005 season.
