Taking Stock of the 2006 FIFA World Cup™ in Nuremberg
For four weeks, football managed to fascinate millions of guests from all over the world in our country. Football dominated in all German regions, and it brought a fantastic mood to Nuremberg. It was a truly international party – cheerful, happy, relaxed. And what contributed to this?
the weather was wonderful;
the citizens of Nuremberg proved to be World Champion hosts – enthusiastic, tolerant, open-minded and friendly;
enthusiastic football fans from Mexico, Iran, England, Trinidad and Tobago, Ghana, USA, Japan, Croatia, Portugal and the Netherlands whose national teams competed in Nuremberg made sure that the World Cup in Nuremberg became a World Cup of fans and the great encounter of people everybody had hoped for;
the municipal support programme titled "Nuremberg Kicks" had the right mix of sports, fun and games, art and culture, party feeling and football fever pitch, and then there were the contributions made by guest countries, with a carnival parade from Trinidad and Tobago, a cricket match organised by the English, a band with brass and drums from Japan, a Dixie Band from the USA, a pop group from Croatia, drummers from Ghana, a show truck from Portugal and the "Oranje Party" and Parade from Holland;
the preparations and organisation were excellent, with many full-time and volunteer helpers working together efficiently.
