The 2006 FIFA Football World Cup™ not only helped to improve Nuremberg's image considerably, some other measurable effects have also remained for the city.

Nuremberg football club, 1. FC Nürnberg, in its Premier League matches will profit from the modernisation of the Franken-Stadion necessitated by the World Cup. This also gives the city a head-start when it comes to applying for further international matches with the German Football Association. As early as June 2, 2007, Nuremberg will host a qualifying match for the European Cup between the German national team and San Marino.

The implementation of the Dynamic Traffic Guidance System, a new motorway interchange, the new long-distance platform at the "Frankenstadion" suburban railway station, all of those building measures have further improved Nuremberg's excellent traffic links.

In time for the World Cup, the City established the Information System Party Rally Grounds. Since May 22, 2006, Nuremberg has had an information system which in 23 locations explains the site's history before 1933, during National Socialism and after 1945.

For the first time since 1971, art was re-introduced in the public domain, in the shape of the exhibition "The Large Piece of Turf. Contemporary Art in the Public Domain". After 35 years, this was the first major opportunity for experiencing and discussing art in the public domain.

These long-lasting projects cost and overall 133 million Euros – quite an economic project for the city. The City contributed about one third of this sum, and the remaining cost was shared by the Federal Republic, the State of Bavaria and others.

In addition, the excellent co-operation between the city administration, the security forces, rescue services, and the police, has opened up new perspectives for any future major event of this kind. It also generated a new type of self-confidence, not only in those responsible for the organisation, but everywhere in the city.
