The Nuremberg conurbation is one of the German regions which can boast most inventions in the fields of science and technology. Nuremberg is in third place in Germany in the number of patent applications filed per inhabitant.

In the universities, technical universities and colleges, in the Fraunhofer Institutes and other research institutions, as well as in various companies, researchers and developers are working on application-oriented projects. The focus is on information and communication electronics, power electronics, mechatronics, medical technology and logistics. Nuremberg is thus one of the top ten high-tech regions in Germany.
